SELFPROOF 0121 - STRING THEORY

CURRENT COSMOLOGY MODEL

In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. In string theory, the different types of observed elementary particles arise from the different quantum states of these strings. In addition to the types of particles postulated by the standard model of particle physics, string theory naturally incorporates gravity and is therefore a candidate for a theory of everything, a self-contained mathematical model that describes all fundamental forces and forms of matter. Aside from this hypothesized role in particle physics, string theory is now widely used as a theoretical tool in physics, and it has shed light on many aspects of quantum field theory and quantum gravity.

MALTA COSMOLOGY TEMPLATE

  • Each type of elementary fermion is made out of a different combination of numbers of the fundamental particle:  the teel.  (see Argument 0101)
  • Every teel occupies the whole of its place in space and time and therefore has the height, width, depth, and duration of that place in space and time. (see Argument 0105)
  • Every teel is a sphere.  (see Argument 0107)
  • The effects of gravity are only apparent in teelpairs, the teels of which are attracted toward each other through their mutual gravitypull.  (see Argument 0111)
  • Every teelpair has energy which is the movement of its teels due to their mutual gravitypull.  (see Argument 0112)
  • The Universe consists of space and teels.  (see Argument 0119)

COMMENTARY

String Theory and Chapter One of the Malta Cosmology Template are attempts to describe the structure of the Universe at a level below the elementary fermions. Each is hypothetical. Each is irreconcilable with the other. The principal differences between them are:
  • String Theory is devolutionary.
    • String Theory moves from the known into the unknown.
    • That is:  from the fermion Universe into the subfermion Universe.
    • It launches itself with assumptions.
    • Some of the assumptions are beyond any currently conceivable form of proofing.
    • Some of the assumptions are quasifacts (eg:  that one dimensional objects exist).
  • The Malta Template is evolutionary:
    • The Malta Template moves from what can be reasonably surmised into the well known and understood.
    • That is:  from the subfermion Universe into the fermion Universe.
    • It launches itself with assumptions.
    • The assumptions selfprove because they evolve into conclusions that can be empirically proved.
    • The Bedrock Templature methodology forbids the use of quasifacts.
  • String Theory is mathematics based.
    • The equations of String Theory describe a subfermion Universe beyond any human experience.
    • (eg:  one containing one dimensional objects, magnetic monopoles, and so on)
    • Attempts are made to explain the equations narratively.
    • Whether the attempts succeed in "being understandable by any reasonably intelligent layperson willing to make a reasonable effort" is debatable.
  • The Malta Template is logic based.
    • The arguments of the Malta Template describe a subfermion Universe that is much the same as the fermion Universe.
    • (eg:  teels are particles which obey laws of physics that apply to larger particles)
    • All arguments are narrative in character with mathematical support where necessary.
    • It is required of a bedrock template that it is "understandable by any reasonably intelligent layperson willing to make a reasonable effort".
  • String Theory incorporates gravity and (perhaps) explains it.
    • String Theory is selfcontained and thus may be the basis for a theory of everything.
  • The Malta Template incorporates gravity but does not explain it.
    • The Malta Template acknowledges the empirically proven existence of gravity but currently offers no explanation for it.
      • The Bedrock Templature methodology forbids the surmising of particles/objects less substantial than a teel without the existence of supporting facts.
      • There are currently no facts suggesting that teels are the least substantial objects in the Universe.
      • There are currently no facts suggesting that teels are not the least substantial objects in the Universe.
    • If the existence of subteel objects can be confirmed one day an explanation for gravity may be found with them - or it may not.

GLOSSARY

  • QUASIFACT:     An assumption that has become the foundation for a sequence of multigenerational assumptions and is now treated as fact in all but name. All assumptions should be challenged regularly but when doing so risks bring down a "house of cards" there is a reluctance to do so and anyone trying to do so tends to be marginalised.  (This is the "emperor's new clothes" syndrome, after the well-known HC Anderson story.)
