SELFPROOF 0403 - QUINTESSENCE

CURRENT PARADIGM

QUINTESSENCE is a hypothetical form of dark energy, more precisely a scalar field, postulated as an explanation of the observation of an accelerating rate of expansion of the universe, rather than due to a true cosmological constant. The first example of this scenario was proposed by Ratra and Peebles (1988). The concept was expanded to more general types of time-varying dark energy and the term "quintessence" was first introduced in a paper by R.R.Caldwell, Rahul Dave and Paul Steinhardt. It has been proposed by some physicists to be a fifth fundamental force[citation needed]. Quintessence differs from the cosmological constant explanation of dark energy in that it is dynamic; that is, it changes over time, unlike the cosmological constant, which always stays constant. It is suggested that quintessence can be either attractive or repulsive depending on the ratio of its kinetic and potential energy. Those working with this postulate believe that quintessence became repulsive about ten billion years ago, about 3.5 billion years after the Big Bang. (Wikipedia - 15 May 2016)

MALTA TEMPLATE

COMMENTARY

At the heart of Quintessence is the notion that the expansion or contraction of the Universe depends on the balance between its kineticenergy and its potentialenergy. The Malta Template has no problem with this - if the energy of an object is sufficiently kinetic it will expand and if it is sufficiently potential it will contract. That the two models share information, however, doesn't mean there is any agreement over the causes of darkenergy.

Underlying the Quintessence concept is the notion that the Universe is a closed system with nothing outside. Accepting this requires the reason for the change from a decelerating expansion to accelerating expansion to be found within the closed system Universe. Hence the attractiveness of the idea that the reason can be a change in the energy pervading space from kinetic to potential.

The Malta Template describes the evolution of the Universe from Moment Zero to the present day, incorporating all the confirmed darkenergy observations without any need for Quintessence. In the Template it is the gravitypull of the Universe's gravitonocean and gravitonosphere that powers its currently increasing expansion rate.
